he had, and the inevitable loyalty that a son feels for his own flesh and blood. As he relays the events that occurred in the early 1960s during the Cuban
Missile Crisis, there is a sense that Nikita Khrushchev was simply too good to be true. He only wanted to help Cuba because the nation was being bullied by the
United States. Then, when push came to shove, Khrushchev decided it was imperative for him to save the world, and he did. Of course, perhaps Khrushchev was not uplifted as
a Superman, but he came close, at least according to his son Sergei who has since emigrated to the Untied States. Sergei Khrushchev (2002) wrote an article entitled
"How my Father and President Kennedy Saved the World." It is a rather prolific declaration and one that has come under scrutiny. First, it should be said that most
of the information appears to be historically accurate with the exception of what was on the minds of the president and his father. To a great extent, this is conjecture.
Another point is that the article contains some facts that are not verifiable because U.S. intelligence was simply inadequate at the time. Finally, the third point is that the article,
while true, paints a holier than thou picture of his father. The lack of anything negative is somewhat disingenuous or naive. In the article, he begins by providing
a bit of history and how the world came close to nuclear annihilation three times during the cold war (Khrushchev, 2002). The first was Korea, but Truman rejected the possibility
and the second was the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the third was during Vietnam (2002). In this article, the son of the Russian leader focuses on the Cuban Missile Crisis.
