the object itself and the nature of the five senses. In assessing the neurological and physiological responses to a rose, it is necessary to consider which of the five
sensory systems are impacted by the presence of the rose and how resulting mental processes progress. The Fives Senses Of the five senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing),
a person interprets a rose using three of these: touch, smell and sight. Only the sense of touch requires direct contact with the rose; smell requires contact only
with the odor let off by the rose and sight only requires visual proximity with the rose. Touch is the process by which direct contact with the rose gives an
individual a sense of certain properties/qualities of the rose (Rollis, 1998). The sense of touch is based in the presence of receptors and sensory cells, and in the case
of the rose, the specific presence of these receptors and cells in the hand. The sense of touch involves the bodys largest organ, the skin, which has over 50
touch receptors per square centimeter and over 5 million sensory cells throughout the body (Sense of Touch, 2000). When a person runs a finger across a red rose and
touches the petals of the rose, sensory assessments include feelings of warmth vs. cold, soft vs. rough, flexible vs. rigid, among others. These senses are a direct result of
the pressing of the substance of the rose against the finger and the conducting of neurological messages from the hand to the brain. The sense of sight is another sensory
system that comes into play when experiencing a red rose. The sense of sight is based on the use of two very sensitive organs, the eyes, and the visual
