Introduction Nostalgia is strong in many areas in todays world. The adage, "The more things change, the more they stay the same"
seems to be in danger of passing from memory. Some things rarely if ever change, however. Chevrolet dropped the Impala nameplate for a time, but brought it back
when consumers indicated the time was right. Functional Considerations And what constitutes the "right" time? In todays society, that time arrives when
families want or need to travel together, they are bored with the concept of the minivan and they are made to feel twinges of shame in driving an SUV.
The time may be right as people tire of finding "trunk" items rolling around the floor of the passenger area too. In the traditional sedan, trunk and passenger areas
are forever separate, allowing the passenger area to remain presentable. In an SUV or minivan, utilitarian items are always in full view. Shoppers are unable to conceal the
fact that their parked, unattended vehicle is filled with expensive items that could tempt would-be thieves. Having a trunk is the neatness equivalent of having a spare closet in
which stray items can be hidden quickly when unexpected visitors arrive. Safety and Fuel Efficiency Small cars can be enjoyable to drive, and
they certainly can be more convenient to park on the side of a city street. They are also quite workable for a family when the children are small.
