leads to goals and accomplishments; weak self-efficacy leads to avoidance of challenging tasks and a focus on ones failures, People who have strong self-efficacy are capable of identifying what they
want to change, they are able to establish goals and they are able to take the steps and actions that are needed to accomplish those goals. These people perceive challenges
as problems to be solved and they recover quickly from disappointments (Cherry, 2011). Bandura identified four sources of self-efficacy: enactive mastery experiences, vicarious experiences, verbal persuasion and social
influences, and physiological and affective states of being (Bandura, 1997). He also explained there are two functions related to cognitive processing in terms of efficacy. One is what information a
person pays attention to and the other is about the rules a person uses to weigh and integrate the information they receive (Bandura, 1997). Enactive experiences are the most authentic
and the most influential of the different sources of efficacy. The person has already had a similar experience and they either succeeded or failed at the task. Vicarious experiences are
mediated by modeling. The individual observes how another person succeeds at a specific task and models those actions (Bandura, 1997). They compare their outcomes with those of the other
person and judge themselves accordingly. We all do this all the time. We compare our actions and outcomes with those of co-workers or even neighbors. If our outcomes are not
