The three rounds of elimination that resulted in the choice of a single country, the Netherlands, included points of consideration that could contribute to the ventures success.
The six countries were evaluated on population, per capita GDP, literacy, unemployment, environmental awareness, political stability, the state of the national economy, government type, business friendliness and where the countries
stand on corruption. These items can be seen in the Appendix. Market Size The population of the Netherlands is 16.4 million, and
the "number of registered passenger cars in the Netherlands is estimated to be 6.7 million units" (Shirriff, 2003). This is a relatively high rate of vehicle ownership, particularly as
the Netherlands is a land of bicycles and public transportation as well, primarily resulting from the high cost of fuel and taxation policies designed to encourage use of public transportation
and bicycle use. In March 2005, gasoline in the Netherlands was selling for ?1,25 a liter, or about $6.48 a gallon (Gas prices around the world, 2005). The
prices of train tickets between cities are high as well, roughly equating to the price of the gasoline that would be required to make the trip by auto. Even
so, street and highway infrastructure is well developed and can handle much more automobile traffic than it currently is required to do. Having access to a car that runs
on only pure water likely would result in many more people opting to drive themselves to the places they need to go. Because
