The model emphasizes people who have few resources and who cannot access the health care they need (Hartweg, 1991). Self-care compensates for these patients inability to obtain formal medical care
and it is learned in families (Hartweg, 1991). The foundation of this theory is that people want to take care of themselves and when they cannot do that, a deficit
exists (Hartweg, 1991). The nurse must then fill in the gaps by designing a support system for these patients (Bridge, Cabell and Herring, 2005). Jean Watsons theory of nursing is
based on the ideas of a number of philosophers and psychologists, including Carl Rogers, most specifically on his "phenomenological psychology and philosophy" (Tourville and Ingalls, 2003, p. 21). Her theory
evolved over at least two decades of diverse experiences. Watsons theory is referred to as Transpersonal Caring because it emphasizes unity in the world (Tourville and Ingalls, 2003). Watson proposed
that caring is a natural act for humans and it becomes a moral principle at the point when a patient and a nurse share a caring experience (Watson 1979). According
to Watson, the goal of nursing is to help the patient achieve harmony of mind, body and spirit (Fawcett, 2002). Neuman presented a Systems model that is founded on stressors
as described by Hans Selye, among other philosophies and theories, such as Perls Gestalt theory (Tourville and Ingalls, 2003). Five factors are considered in this model: "the physiological, psychological, socio-cultural,
developmental, and spiritual" (McHolm and Geib, 1998, p. 23). The nurses role is to help the person gain stability in terms of their health and their ability to cope (Tourville
