Introduction Domestic violence impacts
an astounding percentage of American families. This number is, unfortunately, much higher than is officially recorded since many incidents of domestic violence go unreported. Women, however, are the
most common victim. Many of these women are trapped in situations that they cannot escape simply because of economic reasons. They are completely dependent on their husbands for
their familys economic survival. The intent of this paper is to outline a program that could be implemented to help these women escape this trap.
Literature Review According to U.S. Department of Justice (2005) statistics
an estimated seventy-three percent of family violence victims are women. Pregnant women, in particular, are likely to suffer abuse (U.S. Department of Justice, 2005). The actual number of
women that are impacted by abusive husbands is highly speculative. While we can turn to police and court records to get an idea, the reality is that some families
simply have more means of dealing with domestic violence than do other families. Injuries can be treated discreetly by private physicians, for example, and anger problems can be handled
