Rationale for your choice: Students who demonstrate an understanding of comparative language characteristics and the "exceptions" to rules in the English language are better able to integrate vocabulary. 1. What is the primary language objective of this lesson? The primary language objective in this lesson is to demonstrate that when -er is added to the end of a word (for example, when -er is added to the word "work"), it does no always mean "one whom..." (e.g. a worker is one whom works). Palmberg (2000) gives the example of the word sweat and the adding of -er to make the word sweater. A sweater is not one whom sweats. 2.
