conduct a search of the CINAHL database according to specific search instructions. The goal is to locate articles linking perioperative nursing practice and care with specific nursing theories and
models. Results are in the form of two articles on each of three theorists, Neuman, Orem and Roy. The Theories of Neuman, Orem and Roy
Betty Neumans Systems Model. "The Neuman Systems Model is a wellness model that supports and enables a holistic view" (Edelman, 2000; p. 179). The individual
is an "open system" continually interacting with the environment. That open system "interacts with internal and external stressors and is in a state of constant change, moving toward wellness
or illness in varying degrees" (Edelman, 2000; p. 179) and is affected by five variables: physiologic, psychological, sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual. As such, the individual is a complete system,
albeit one open to alterations in its function. In other words, the fact that it exists as a specific type of system does not preclude its ability to change
