daily calisthenics very early in the morning. Each morning, there is also a seminar on different topics, such as trust, accountability, healthy conflict and commitment. Employees move from the seminar to learning how to rappel down a cliff, kayak, swim, bike, and hike. They also have to learn how to navigate using a compass. When everyone has arrived, people are divided into four ten-member teams, which are referred to as tribes. Each selects a name that must be one of the birds native to New Zealand and they need to learn that sound that bird makes and demonstrate it. Each has a backpack and each team is given a toy kiwi bird which must be in physical contact with one member of them all the time. Teams gain points for winning the event, for carrying the toy kiwi bird and for a number of other things, like volunteering for something. They can also lose points if the kiwi bird is not in physical contact with a member of the team. The point of the week is to learn how to be a team member. The cost is $9,000 per person for a total cost to the company of $1.8 million. The people are diverse, from different types of jobs, from different geographic locations and in their own demographics, personality, etc. There is some confusion in the article. The author reports the company "flew 200 staffers" to New Zealand and then reports there are "four tribes, each made up of 10 athletically, regionally, and operationally diverse teams." Later in the article, the author says the kiwi bird is each teams "sixth team member" and later says "40 teams are dropped on an island."
