enjoy. This was typical for quite some time until a new television genre dubbed "reality television" came to the forefront. Cheaper than paying writers and doing numerous takes until the
show was right, the new genre is also easier to edit. The cameras roll and the editors do their job to bring the audience the best of what is considered
to be reality. That is, the contestants on the shows are not actors. They are just being who they are. There are no writers. Rather, someone comes up with a
concept and the contestants are themselves. The result is a fascinating blend of heartache and comedy, similar to scripted television. The entertainment value is there, but the shows are quite
different from the traditional fare. While scripted television is an art form, reality TV is not. First, it should be said that there are many similarities between reality television and
scripted television. This is because there are confines on the show. There are commercials in between. There is a prime time audience that is used to seeing all of the
shows in a certain format. They flip from show to show and while many are reality shows, it seems as if just as many are scripted. There is a sameness
in terms of quality in what the individual can expect. There is entertainment value in both. Ibrahim (2007) writes: " Myth is intrinsic and inseparable to the medium of television
and its manifestations in reality television are ever more potent" (p.41). Why? One would think that reality television does not attach itself to myth. Yet, Ibrahim (2007) here refers to
