training relating to models of training used in doctoral programs in professional psychology. However, the best-known of these models is the scientist- practitioner model, which offers "a solid foundation in
research and the scientific approach to psychology" (Merrell, Ervin and Gimpel, 2006, p. 73). The scientific-practitioner model of training for a career in professional psychology is one of the "most
highly revered and (at least nominally) adopted training models" utilized (Hayes and Berens, 2003, p. 5). In the earliest inceptions of applied
psychology, science and practice were considered by many experts to inseparable and this vision was formalized in 1947, when the APA supported the idea that psychology graduate students should be
trained as "both as scientists and practitioners" (Hayes and Berens, 2003, p. 5). As this suggests, this at this landmark conference, the scientific-practitioner model of training was adopted as the
standard for psychological training. Shadows report and the Boulder Conference Carl Rogers, who was the APA president at the time, called on David Shadow in 1947 to chair a
committee that was charged with the task of determining how to define and teach psychotherapy (Pope, 2003). Due to Shakows report, the influential Boulder Conference resulted and the subsequent formulation
