a lack of integrity. The United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Research Integrity, offers us, through their website, not only a definition for plagiarism, but also
numerous court cases which illustrate various forms of misconduct on the part of the scientific community. In the following paper we examine 8 different cases from 2001 as presented by
the Office of Research Integrity, summarizing them and assessing their importance to society in general. Steven F. Arnold "[T]he U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) found that Dr. Arnold,
former Research Assistant Professor at the Center for Bioenvironmental Research at Tulane University Medical Center, engaged in scientific misconduct. Dr. Arnold committed scientific misconduct by intentionally falsifying the research results
reported in Table 3 of a paper published in the journal Science1 and by providing falsified and fabricated materials to investigating officials at Tulane University in response to a request
for original data to support the research results and conclusions reported in the Science paper" (ORI casesummaries.asp). They also found that he had no supporting data from which he could
support his findings (ORI). At the heart of the matter, Arnolds research involved the statement that certain insecticides and "hydroxylated polychlorinated biphenyls" combined to prove up to "1000 times
more potent in mimicking estrogen when tested in combination" (ORI casesummaries.asp). This study was intended to limit the amount of exposure to such combinations. And, in this light we can
note that such false information to the public can cause irreparable damage to beliefs and ideas concerning such chemicals. David R. Jacoby In short, "the U.S. Public Health
