lives. So too can the scientific method. The scientific method employs the processes of induction and deduction, processes where observations are made and conclusions reached from those observations. This method can be used to solve a number of problems that we encounter in our everyday lives. Problems are an unfortunate part of our everyday lives. Whether they relate to personal injustices, illness or disease, business losses, investment decisions or miscommunication between people or even nations; we all experience problems. Problems can be solved, however, through careful investigation and verification of facts. This can be accomplished in two ways: inductive reasoning or deductive reasoning. When inductive reasoning is employed assumptions are based on psychological calculations and past experiences. The process of induction, therefore, is largely a process of intuition. In contrast to induction, the process of deduction is more empirical in nature. In the deductive process the facts and circumstances of a situation are weighed out and a logical decision is made utilizing those facts and circumstances. Both of these process are quite helpful, however, in the problem solving process. Indeed, these processes are useful in everything from helping a friend that seems upset to perfecting cooking strategies. Consider, for example, how these processes might be utilized to help a person that has migraine headaches determine the root causes of those headaches. Migraine attacks, after all, are widely acknowledged as being brought on by certain foods, weather conditions, or even stress levels.
