1600 and ended with the death of Bach in 1750 ("The Spirit," 2003). It was about that time that the Enlightenment era would begin. The actual term
"baroque" originates from Portugal and actually denotes an "irregular shaped pearl" (2003). This is interestingly a good description of the Baroque era that included the production of some of the
best music of all time (2003). Yet, it was also a time of some of the bloodiest wars in history (2003). The Baroque era was clearly a time
of great finds, but it was also a time of class conflict and upheaval. It was also a time that preceded great changes in thinking. It should be said that
Baroque society revolved around the concept of absolute monarchy as the King or Queen would hold all the power in the nations ("The Spirit," 2003). Louis XIV,
King of France, for example, once said : "I am the State" (2003, p.PG). There had also been an increasing separation amongst classes and while noblemen would rise higher
in class to stay with the King, the tradesmen created a class of their own which were called the bourgeoisie (2003). At the same time, there was a new
found wealth to come through the newly erupting middle class ("The Baroque" 2003). It was a time of political and economic change and while there was strife, it was a
rather pleasant time for many. Baroque was also considered to be an age of reason, and scientific inquiry had been at an all-time high and this is when scientific
method would be developed by Sir Isaac Newton ("The Spirit," 2003). The Scientific method would lay the groundwork for the Enlightenment in which the new discoveries of the Baroque era
