lead to certain kinds of rituals and eventually become traditions for that school (Center for Improving School Culture, 2004b). For example, in one school, collaboration may be a key
component in the school culture. Teachers talk and share problems and ideas with each other, they help others solve problems. The culture is such that it is safe for teachers
or any other staff to engage in this type of collaboration. In another school, the culture suggests that to ask for help is to admit a lack of competence so
there is no sharing. Just as ones personal culture based on nationality, religion or other factors affects everything a person does in their life, the school culture affects everything
that goes on in the school (Center for Improving School Culture, 2004b). There are both healthy and unhealthy cultures. This same organization reports three major components that are found
in a healthy school culture: collaboration, collegiality, and efficacy (Center for Improving School Culture, 2004a). Collaboration is about working together, sharing issues, information and concern, discussing things like student concerns
and instructional strategies that work and so on (Center for Improving School Culture, 2004a). Collegiality describes the degree to which staff members of the school feel that they belong there
and it is about emotional support for each other (Center for Improving School Culture, 2004a). Efficacy is about how people view themselves, how much control they perceive they have over
