which has been proven to be effective. 3 mechanisms, 3 guiding principles, and 3 operations The SDP model is an inclusive approach to governing a schools operations that considers
the whole school and not just a particular group of people or any targeted aspect (Comer, Haynes and Norris 9). The SDP model specifies three primary teams, the School Planning
and Management Team (SPMT), the Parent Team (PT) and the Student and Staff Support Team (SSST), which are collectively referred to as the three mechanisms (Comer, Haynes and Norris 9).
The work of these teams if driven by three principles, consensus, collaboration and the concept of "no-fault," which collectively work to nurture and create a positive learning climate (Comer, Haynes
and Norris 9). Via the three principles, school teams work together to review their aims and actions and identify problems within the framework of a no-fault atmosphere. The principle
of consensus refers to "brainstorming, in-depth discussion, cross-fertilization of ideas, and a plan for trying different solutions in some sequence" (Comer, Haynes and Norris 9). When decision-making is arrived at
through a consensual process, each member of the team feels that they had an input into the decision, whereas the process of voting creates "winners" and "losers." This requires respect
for all perspectives and promotes the processes of collaboration. Three operations are also central to the SDP. These are the Comprehensive School Plan, Staff Development and Monitoring and Assessment (Comer,
