system, life at school is nothing like what we would call the real world. The first major difference is that in the real world, people do not associate only with
people in their own age range, yet, that is how we group children and adolescents in the formal education system. In the world, we associate with people of different ages,
even children and adolescents have siblings who are older or younger and they may play or hang out with neighborhood kids who are not the same age. The next difference
is the fact that children and youngsters are forced to sit in desks in rows ad they cannot get up and down at will. Even if an individual works in
cubicles, they do have more freedom of movement. They also have options for their d?cor. Even high school and college are "about as far from real life as can be
imagined" (Thrive, 2007). The academic content we learn in school is related to the real world. Many people disagree with this statement but its true. We use math in
some way every day, whether it is determining how much change we should receive or how much antifreeze the car needs. We certainly use language every day. Other subjects like
algebra teach us to think analytically and history, as much as most students dislike it, really helps us to become more global and international in our outlooks, to realize there
are people who are different. School teaches us discipline that we will need in work environments. It also offers the opportunity to learn social skills and how to get
along with different people. Unfortunately, school also teaches us to exactly follow the rules, it teaches us that we really should know the right answer and that we need to
