work, though not as numerous as other architects, still holds a powerful essence as it relates to Schindlers particular style. The following paper examines one particular architectural structure, his Kings
Road House which was his studio and home for many years. Kings Road House When first looking at Schindlers Kings Road House one gets the sense that the
structure is very reminiscent of a cave, or a very primitive dwelling. It is incredibly sparse and the materials that make up the interior seem ancient. There is concrete, simple
lines, and many simple elements that speak of such a primitive space. In addition, the ceilings seem quite low as well, giving the impression of a very safe and secretive
space in many respects. This particular architectural structure is really considered to be his first substantial piece. One author notes, "In this, his first independent design in the U.S.,
Schindler set forth the basic tenets of his architectural philosophy, which he called Space Architecture" (Great Buildings Online [2], 2006). One can truly get the powerful understanding of his use
of space as it involves this simplicity, again, a simplicity almost like that of a cave dwelling. Although the lighting and the windows seem numerous there is also the
feel that it is a cavern with light coming through in a very pleasing manner, not a bright and obtrusive manner. This also adds to the cave like essence of
the house. The exterior also provides elements of this perception as it is very low and all but blends into the environment, hiding much like a cave. It is
