position of the cases involving the two individuals and then examines how they are similar and different. Schiavo Schiavos case begins many years ago, and the first powerful
case and verdict is handed down, in 2000, in a court case discussing the necessity for removing the feeding tube. "The trial begins; Pinellas-Pasco County Circuit Court Judge George Greer
presides...Judge Greer rules that Ms. Schiavo would have chosen to have the PEG tube removed, and therefore he orders it removed, which, according to doctors, will cause her death in
approximately 7 to 14 days" (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006). An appeal essentially upholds the judges ruling, and Terris parents continue to fight for another hearing which is denied (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006).
A stay, however, was granted and Terris husband petitioned the judge to have the stay removed and thus the removal of Terris tube would be permitted (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006).
In 2001 this is granted and her tube is ultimately removed in April (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006). Then Terris parents bring to court the notion that her husband lied and they
file a new suite which argued he had lied about Terris wishes (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006). This ultimately resulted in a reinsertion of her tube (Cerminara; Goodman, 2006). In essence, this
case continues, going back and forth, arguing something new, presenting new possibilities, as Terri lays there helpless. The cases continued in this vein until March of 2005 when he tube
was removed for the final time. Her parents continued to fight, trying to have the tube reinserted, but new regulations were passed and it seems the rulings were leaving no
