in this Mafia family by indicating the immense power of the Don, while also indicating the human side of the Godfather, offering further insight into his character. Everything in the
scene is geared toward this purpose, conveying background information to the viewing audience. The scene opens with a close up shot of Amerigo Bonasera (Salvatore Corsitto). He is explaining
how his daughter resisted being raped by two American boys who subsequently beat her, how he then went to the police and the American court system gave the boys a
three year suspended sentence. As he speaks the camera pulls slowly back and the silhouette of the head and shoulders of the man to whom he is speaking are now
framed in the picture with a desk between the Bonasera and the listening figure. The office is under-lit, so heavy dark shadows are evident. Bonasera becomes emotional during his speech
and a hand enters the frame offering him a jigger of whiskey. The Godfather asks what he wants him to do. Bonasera cannot bring himself to say his request aloud,
and he comes around the desk and whispers it. There is a cut to a close up of the Godfathers face at this point. It is the bulldog face
of an older man, with full jowls and thinning hair. Reportedly, Brando wore a prosthetic device in his mouth to produce the protruding cheeks. He is wearing a tuxedo,
with a red rose bud in the lapel, and he gently strokes a cat in his lap. There is a brief cut to a full view of the room, which
shows it to be a dark, but a lavishly furnished, richly appointed room, with leather chairs, paintings and wood paneling. There are two other men in the room as well,
