For, in the majority of our eyes, to envision a bride who trembles from excitement and anticipation or to imagine the almost comical discrepancy in the side-by-side heights of a
newly wedded couple only adds to the poignancy of this picture. The vision of a bride who trembles not from excitement but from fear or the image of a
bridegroom who stoops to reach the face of not a shorter adult but instead a child, however, adds not an element of poignancy but instead one of parody to the
picture. An element of parody that leads one automatically to the inevitable question of what is wrong with this picture? What is wrong with this picture is an age-old
custom known as arranged marriage, a custom that incorporates within its conventions the practice, among others, of child marriages. It is a custom in which neither bride nor groom
