solutions can be realised. An area does not become run down over night, this takes time and a lack of interest or investment. In any area there will be
fashionable areas and popular locations, these will demand a premium price and as such limited who can and cannot live their. Those with less economic affluence are then restricted to
the less popular areas as the way in which supply and demand interact will result in the price being lower. This is the same for both households and businesses. The
net result is a concentration of less well off businesses and individuals in the less popular areas. This has the knock on
effect of then having an area where there is less disposable income to renovate and invest, this creates a run down area. The conditions are then self sustaining, with little
motivation by individuals to invest and councils or town authorities seeing the area as a problem area. Being run down it gains less attention and other social problems such as
crime and drugs are also more likely to emerge and proliferate due to the level of disinterest shown in the area. Whilst
this is taking place there is also an impact in the popular areas, as it is in these out of town areas that there is increasing urban sprawl. Areas that
were once quiet and for the first time even non metropolitan growth is reaching the same levels of metropolitan growth. This means that there is increasing money being taken out
