department would be more easily managed, that is generally not the case. The manager of the department must be able to enforce and implement the projects, programs, and regulations of
the larger organization. Sandra, the clinical manager in crucial care has been in her position for a decade. She has seen the increase in technology which helps patients but
she has also seen the demand to shorten patients stays in the hospital. This dual aspect of critical care presents conflicts for Sandra. It changes the way she, her staff,
and even doctors treat patients. Somme staff members are embracing the changes enthusiastically while others are not. This situation leads to tension between the larger organization and the department,
between Sandra and her supervisors, and between Sandra and her employees. Sandra is rightfully confused about what her next step should be. She is under orders but should she just
issue those orders to the staff members who are dragging their feet? There is no reason Sandra cannot engage the resisting staff members in a group discussion with the foregone
conclusion that the changes will be implemented. Since time is of the essence, it would seem this would be the most effective approach. It is important for Sandra not
to lose control of her department. She is meeting with some of the critical care staff to generate ideas for implementing the new procedures. She can adopt the transformational leadership
style with this group. The transformational leader encourages creative and innovative thinking to solve problems (Casida & Parker, 2011). It will be counter-productive to just begin using a lot
of different ideas. They need to be analyzed and a plan needs to be made for which ideas to use and when. This can be accomplished within the group. This
