The reality of privilege as it is bestowed upon some groups is entirely separate and apart from the ravages of others. To compare the manner by which different
people of different classes are influenced by prejudice of social class implores the reader to envision the glaring contrarieties of cultural intolerance amidst a white community, where the richness and
valued learning of different cultures is severely restricted within the contemporary educational system. This essence of identity represents the common denominator between the two stories, inasmuch as both authors
strive to illustrate the struggles inherent to being ethnic in a white world. "In the simplest term, identity is the fact of being the same in all respects.
It is who a person is and what makes them different from the next person" (Identity). One can readily argue that the association
with prejudice in Esperanzas conflict of identity comes from an elitist point of view, where it is not acceptable for certain classes of people to associate with one another, even
