heart, and also do whatever she could to rebel against her mother as well. Like many women, she is caught up in loving and hating her mother and all she
stood for. The following paper examines the morality and the human value in Cisneros story. Sandra Cisneros Never Marry a Mexican The daughter in this story, Clemencia, is
a woman who remembers her mother told her to never marry a Mexican. When her mother said this she meant she did not want her daughter to marry a man
from Mexico for she desired that her daughter have a better man than one straight from Mexico. She believed that a more American type man would offer her more freedom
than a true Mexican man, and as such hoped that her daughter would get more than she had. However, the reader also learns that the mother cheated on her
husband when he was dying. It is in these two situations that Clemencia seems to hate and love her mothers ideals. She will not marry a Mexican, and in fact
she will marry no man at all. She will, instead, be the other woman, always engaged in relationships with married men. In trying to run from her mothers teachings, and
her mothers influence, she will debase herself and all the people she is involved with, and even those wives who she does not know. Her sense of human value, for
herself, is little if nothing and so she sees nothing of value in others. This clearly influences her morality. She is engaged in activities, however, which she seems to
sense are wrong and give the reader the impression she wants so much more, she desires love and she truly wishes she could be free somehow to find her value
