image utilizing the wedding cake, a wedding cake with four tiers. The following paper examines and discusses this presentation of Walkers. Samuel Walker, the Wedding Cake, and Criminal
Justice As mentioned in the introduction the wedding cake is comprised of four tiers and each tier, as one is going down the cake, increases in size. This is seemingly
symbolic of the amount of criminals on each individual tier of this symbolic cake. The first tier is comprised of the least amount of people and the bottom tier symbolizes
the most amount of people in the given category. The very first tier of the cake, the top tier that is the smallest, is comprised of high profile crimes
that are normally possessed by celebrities and notorious criminals. This level is called "Celebrated Cases" (Chapter Topics, 2007). One author presents the elements comprised in this tier: * at the
top of the wedding cake * dominate the news headlines, but are atypical of most cases * the judicial process is carefully followed * these cases are
likely to go to a full jury trial * have considerable impact on the public perception (too much?) (Chapter Topics, 2007). An example of this particular type of
case would likely be the case of O.J. Simpson. He, however, was a celebrity as well as a criminal suspect. That is why his case became a "celebrated" case.
