that same sex marriages are a threat to society, a threat to the constitution, and a threat to family and religion. For all intents and purposes, however, it seems that
nothing could be further from the truth. While it is argue that gay couples should not get the same benefits as heterosexual couples the bottom line appears to be that
people simply do not want gay people in society. There is actually no solid or threatening reality that supports the argument that gay couples should not marry. The following paper
examines the issues of same sex marriages and argues that they should be legally accepted and allowed. Same Sex Marriages One of the biggest arguments against same sex
marriages involves the institution of marriage. It is argued that the institution of marriage is designed for the raising of children and the establishment of a family. However, in all
honesty, there are many heterosexual marriages that have no children and as such, according to this logic, they are not conducive to the institution of marriage either.
Marriage is not simply about having children but it is about establishing family units. Families, however, come in many varieties. There are families that consist
of grandparents, aunts or uncles, brothers or sisters, adoptive parents, single parents and almost any sort of family one could imagine. There is no real solid truth to the fact
that families are only a mother and father and children. Throughout time this has been the truth concerning families and it has never been the case that only a mother
and father raise children, nor has it been the case that a man and a woman always have children and thus strengthen and define the institution of marriage.
