me because the people who harbor this attitude often seem to be more about hatred, than religious brotherhood. They are, after all, usually the same people who rationalize the murder
of doctors who perform abortions. They do not condone murder by any means, but they manage to convey the message that it is easy to understand why someone would do
this, as they imply that the fault lies with society, not the individual, for allowing something they consider immoral. In the essay that accompanied this assignment, the main idea is
that those who oppose same-sex marriage, in order to logically maintain their position, need to formulate arguments that cannot be easily refuted. Examination of this essay shows that the author
offers irrefutable rebuttal to each of the major arguments made by those who oppose same sex marriage. The first argument addresses the popular theory among some conservative Christians that
same-sex marriage is antithetical to the principle purpose of marriage, which they identify as procreation. To refute this, the author points out that the law does not restrict marriage solely
to those people wishing to become parents, but also allows it in regards to older adults who have passed the ages associated with child-rearing; couples who wish to remain childless;
and even to couples who remain celibate within marriage. The multiple exceptions listed effectively refute the power of this argument. Then, the author addresses the argument that same-sex
marriage is antithetical to the goals of society because it is through the institution of marriage that women bringing a civilizing influence to mens lives. People who support this argument
