the right of any individual, who wishes to make the commitment, to marry regardless of their sexual orientation. The following paper examines both sides of the issue and argues that
same sex marriages should be legal and accepted. Same Sex Marriage In looking at the controversial subject the arguments against same sex marriage are presented first. One of
the most common, and perhaps the one only real argument aht most people understand, involves religion. According to the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the Mormons, it
is noted by them that, "The Church has a single, undeviating standard of sexual morality: intimate relations are proper only between a husband and a wife united in the bonds
of matrimony" (LDS, 2008). While this is a statement made by the Mormons, a religion that is generally considered a bit outside the norms of Christianity, it is also a
sentiment that most churches and Christian religions support for they believe that sex is only acceptable in marriage and in a marriage between a man and a woman and only
heterosexual marriages are recognized or accepted because that is what God intended. This is further emphasized by the fact that, "Anti gay marriage groups often argue that allowing gay marriage,
which is against the teachings of many churches, is an impediment of religious freedom" (Love and Pride, 2008). There is the religious, as
well as perhaps socially scientific, argument that states how "Strong, stable families, headed by a father and mother, are the anchor of civilized society" (LDS, 2008). One can see many
