seen when examining and comparing the salaries and benefits of the National Basketball and National Football Players Association. In the NBA there is the ability to negotiate salaries, however
there are laid down minimums, just as there is a cap on the amount that a team may pay out in total. The way the minimum is calculated is based
on position and number of years in the leagues. The scale for the 2005/6 season saw a minimum salary of $3,617,100 for the player in the number 1 pick position
in their first year as a rookie, for the first year rookies who is in the 30th position this falls to $717,800 (Inside Hoops, 2005) There have been increases negotiated
up until the 2020/2011 season, with annual rises in addition to the rises for each player as they increase in their number of years of experience (Inside Hoops, 2005). Furthermore
a club is not allowed to spend more than the current cap of $53.135 million on players salaries, but there are some extensions and exceptions to this cap (Inside Hoops,
2006). In terms of contracts there are both rookie and player contracts. A rookie contract used to have a three year guarantee, now it is only a two year guaranteed
with the third year at the teams option. If the player is then kept on a forth year then the increase in salary will be as a set percentage of
