PLC bought a 49% stake in Central De Cervejas for ?93 million in 2000, the brewery that makes and distributes the beer (Kibazo, 2000). The company has since acquired the
rest of the company (S & N , 2003). Initially the company shares the management of Central De Cervejas before the final take over was completed but with much of
the management remaining (S & N , 2003). Sagres has between 39% and 40% of the beer market in Portugal and at only number two indicates a high level of
concentration in this market (S & N , 2003, Kibazo, 2000). The sale equate to 2.7 million hectolitres a year in 2004 this equated to 510,328,656 pints (The Times, 2004).
The marketing is strong and tag lines are well known in the country, for example for the dark beer the tag line is "Sagres. Spot the difference". The company
employs 1,150 people but the accounts do not give an indication of the turnover of the financial performance of this one secotr of the company. However we can look at
the parent company as whole and use this to assess the performance of Central De Cervejas is a part of this performance. If we look at the company
