school each day. This is due to a variety of factors, some of which include pollution, aging buildings, threats of violence, and other means of harm which can come
to a child when the school is unprepared. Typically, schools are not prepared for all possible emergencys. There are some things which can be controlled to some
extent and others which cannot. There are natural disasters, safety issues with the building itself, and many other forms of disaster which can befall a school and put the
children at risk of injury or even more serious harm and possibly even death. Obviously, these are serious concerns and the safety of schools is not an issue which can
be ignored. By addressing the issue, schools have the opportunity to create environments which are as safe as possible. But, if the threats to safety go unheeded, then
disaster is a real possibility. Some factors which make-up a schools health program are "all All the strategies, activities, and services
offered by, in, or in association with schools that are designed to promote students physical, emotional, and social development" (What is School Health? 2002). There are others as well
such as the physical state of the building and other factors which impact the health of students. Furthermore, it is important
to note that many school buildings in this country are aging and that is bringing about many health concerns as well. These buildings often require a great deal of
money to be maintained and some school systems simply cannot afford to maintain them properly. This again can often result in the compromised safety of students. Indoor Air
