modern business management for over three decades, but changes in the views of safety professionals have reshaped the way in which safety is approached. Swartz (2002) study considers the
issue of safety auditing and the implementation of safety audit programs and the way in which changing views on health and safety have influenced the form of these programs between
the late 1970s and 2000. Problem The problem presented by the author is the need to consider the changes that have occurred in health and safety management
since the 1970s in order to determine their impact on safety auditing. As a result, the author provides a comparative view of two studies, one that was conducted between
1979 and 1980 and the other in 2000. Population or Sample This study is based on a comparative approach, where data analysis is conducted through a view of
two separate studies that were conducted of safety managers during the two time periods outlined. The initial sample populations for these studies are from groups of safety management professionals,
but the existing article is causal comparative and so does not utilize a separate sample population. The results of the two studies, then, are the basis for the comparison that
is made, rather than reflections on a new study outlined in the article. Method The methodology utilized in this study is a comparative analysis, through which a
view of existing studies is presented. The study is longitudinal, because it looks at the same factors relative to the views of safety and health professionals over time.
