to drive, loud and pricey (at something like $300 per unit, which was expensive in the early 20th century). The cars were also smelly - they relied on petrol, fossil
fuels, to get around. Better to have a horse, some folks thought. Today, however, were well beyond the Model-T stage. Automobiles are
prevalent (as are the roads on which they travel). Also prevalent are airplanes (again, a century ago, it was never believed
air travel could be used for anything practical). Manufacturers of both auto and airplane parts are in abundance two. The aspect uniting
all of this is its driven by fossil fuels. A century ago, these fuels were considered more abundant; especially following oil well discoveries in Texas and other areas. The United
States, and the world, built its highways and economies on fossil fuels. But in recent years, the fossil fuel aspect has become
less enchanting. The gasses emitted from burning gasoline and other forms of oil, are pumping more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, potentially leading to climactic situations such as global warming.
Oil is also becoming a finite resource; some experts point out that weve already reached the peak of what the planet can provide.
Both of these factors are driving the search toward alternative fuels. And number one on that alternative fuel list are biofuels. Many governments are so fond of biofuels, theyve
passed initiatives mandating such fuels be added to regular fossil fuels at the gas pump. The concept behind biofuels is that theyll contribute less to greenhouse gasses. Another concept is
