that manages the resources and sets metrics for SCM); source (the suppliers that deliver the goods, as well as pricing and payment processes with suppliers); "make," or manufacturing (activities necessary
for production, testing and packaging the product for delivery); delivery, or logistics (during which the company coordinates receipt of orders from the customer and arranges warehousing and delivery of the
product) and return (Wailgum and Worthen, 2008). Needless to say, not many companies like the return portion of the SCM, but its
essential for such companies (and their supply chain planners) to have a responsive and flexible network for receiving both effective products and excess inventory back from customers (Wailgum and Worthen,
2008). But what were trying to show here is that SCM involves more than simply getting the product to market. The company
that isnt very supportive of its customers when it comes to returns is a company that isnt going to be in business for very long. This is where the supply
chain becomes so important. What was once considered mainly logistics (i.e., getting the raw materials in to make a product, then getting the product to market), is becoming more and
more a partnership between a supplier and its client to ensure that the right amount of product is available. This means that enough is available to satisfy demand, without putting
