to provide some of the main issues that are involved with supply chain management and some of the new learning that has occurred as a result. As we werent given
specific information about supply chain management on which to write, this will be a model paper, providing the student with information about how such a paper could be written.
Supply chain management, or SCM as its often known, is the process by which a product is converted from raw components to the
final product that goes to the end user (Wailgum and Worthen, 2008). Typical supply chain management consists of five components - planning (the strategy that manages the resources and sets
metrics for SCM); source (the suppliers that deliver the goods, as well as pricing and payment processes with suppliers); "make," or manufacturing (activities necessary for production, testing and packaging the
product for delivery); delivery, or logistics (during which the company coordinates receipt of orders from the customer and arranges warehousing and delivery of the product) and return (Wailgum and Worthen,
2008). Needless to say, not many companies like the return portion of the SCM, but its essential for such companies (and their supply chain planners) to have a responsive and
