of the other. Studying the body and the systems helps improve an understanding of how they operate, and what can cause them to break down.
The study and understanding of the make-up and structure of the human body is called anatomy (Lefers, 2004). The word has a Greek origin, its etymology consists
of the word ana, which means "up" and "tom," which means cutting (Lefers, 2004). Therefore, anatomy, in its literal translation is a "cutting up," in this case, of a body
(Lefers, 2004). When it comes to a neuromuscular discussion about anatomy, the top dog of the human body, the thing that
is atop the hierarchy of various systems, is the brain. The brain is responsible for pretty much everything, but its main function is to collect information, analyze it, then decide
what to do about it. For example, if someone has an itch on his/her body, the brain registers this, then sends a chemical impulse out to one hand to scratch
the itch. Once the itch has been scratched, the brain then sends a different chemical out to stop the motion. Then there
are the involuntary reactions - for example, if a humans eyes see something dangerous or frightening, the brain sends signals to the adrenal and other glands to get the body
into "fight or flight mode;" the heart rate goes up, vision becomes more clear and muscles gain strength. Once the danger has passed, the brain sends counter chemicals through the
blood stream to clear it of adrenaline and other chemicals. The two systems well examine in this paper are the somatosensory and
