manufacturer (Dorsch, 2010). In addition to manufacturing popular models such as Camry, Corolla and the Sienna, Toyota also manufactures and sells the luxury Lexus line, its Scion brand and a
full-size pick-up truck (Dorsch, 2010). Toyotas focus is currently in China, where it wants to have a 10% share by the end of 2010 (Dorsch, 2010).
Toyota actually got its start in 1926 as a loom company, marketing a new loom invented by Sakichi Toyoda (Dorsch, 2010). In 1930, Toyoda sold the
rights to the loom he invented and gave the proceeds to son Kiichiro Toyoda to launch an automotive business (Dorsch, 2010). Kiichiro opened an auto shop in the loom works
in 1933, splitting off the car department in 1936 and changing the name to Toyota in 1937 (Dorsch, 2010). A manufacturer of military trucks during World War II, it reorganized
in 1950 and launched its Land Cruiser in 1951, its Crown in 1955 and small Corona in 1957 (Dorsch, 2010). Toyota expanded quickly in the U.S. in the 1970s (Dorsch,
2010). These days, despite its negative publicity about sticking brakes, Toyota still enjoys a good reputation, especially in the area of production.
