a quality product and an interesting atmosphere in which to drink that coffee. Additionally, Starbucks maintains relationships with coffee growers throughout the world to ensure that quality and consistency of
the product can be maintained. In order for the companies overall strategy to maintain effectiveness, Starbucks must continually monitor its internal and
external environments, including its resources, capabilities, and core competencies, and adapt its tactics and operations accordingly. But what are some major
issues that Starbucks has faced during the past year? These include consistency and quality when it comes to their products and services, supplier protection and future supply, social responsibility, innovation
and identifying new markets. But is Starbucks the only company that is facing these issues? Are there other companies out there that
have made headlines and gains for "doing good," but must continually challenge themselves as times change and consumer needs change? In this
paper, well attempt to answer these questions by focusing on other companies. The two weve selected are Southwest Airlines and Toyota Motor Corp. Both of these companies have done very
well in their fields and have gained kudos from many (and enmity from competition). But both these companies, like Starbucks, are facing changing market conditions, which is forcing internal and
