question here is to find websites that contain stock dividends, splits and reverse splits. But before we go into detail, lets first discuss what, exactly, a stock is.
A share of stock is, in its most basic form, a piece of a company. Companies that want to raise money but dont want
to go through the borrowing process from a bank or financial institution will issue pieces of its company for sale (i.e., shares) to investors. The idea is that investors will
buy those pieces and in return, expect the company to invest the money earned into something that will increase the companys profits. If the company is profitable and more people
want pieces of it, the price per share will rise. If, however, the company is struggling, investors are eager to get rid of their shares, and the price, and the
companys perceived value in the marketplace, drops. If a company is profitable, it will sometimes issue dividends to its investors. These
are profits earned, and its a way for the company to say "thank you" to the investors for buying the stock. Not all companies do this - sometimes theyll put
that money back into the company, and the shareholder understands this will increase value in the long term. Sometimes companies will split
stocks or reverse split them. One location that has some good information about stock splits and dividends can be found on Yahoo!Finance (http://biz.yahoo.com/c/s.html), which has financial calendars explaining planned stock
splits. For example, according to the splits calendar, United Therapeutics has a stock split scheduled for September 22 of this year.
