with the actual hands-on processes, many production control processes arent much different from those used in 1901. Stickley, a furniture company, is one
such company. While it manufactures well-crafted furniture and presumably has a good reputation, its production and processing systems are outdated and antiquated. They need to be upgraded, with a quality
management system implemented. Stickley Furniture Overview J.G. Stickley, located in Syracuse, NY, produces fine cherry, white oak and mahogany furniture. One product
mainstay is its mission oak furniture, which accounts for close to 50% of company sales. Employees skills range from lowe-skilled materials handlers to highly skilled craftsmen.
The company employs 1350 people, has five retail showrooms in New York, Connecticut and North Carolina, and is sold nationally by 120 dealers. Production Processing
Given the processes described in the Stickey case study, the main production method is the job shop method; in other words, low production volume,
with little standardization. This particular production method is typically used when producing one-of-a-kind products - and this would certainly describe Stickleys situation. Much of the furniture is manufactured by hand,
involving a great deal of labor-intensive effort. But there is a secondary process used, to a lesser extent, that being a continuous
