Doing so would be difficult, however. Although sexual harassment in the workplace has been in the headlines for years now, proving it has taken place is a long and laborious
process, which can result in hurt feelings, bruised egos and damaged reputations. In addition, while the prime targets for sexual harassment during the 1980s and 1990s were women, it is
only recently that same-sex harassment and harassment against men in the workplace has been considered legitimate. The purpose of this paper is
to determine what issues Eisenfelds dilemma has brought up, and to suggest ways in which the human resources manager must go about either proving or disputing Eisenfelds accusations.
Eisenfeld claims that his boss, Ed Williams, has been making off-color sexual comments to him, asking him to come to his office to discuss
business and then asking him extremely personal and sexual questions. On several occasions, Eisenfeld has returned to his desk after lunch, only to find pornographic materials on his chair, which
he believes were left there by Williams. In the meantime, Evans, another colleague, approached him sexually one night by sliding her foot against his leg while they were working together
on a late-night project. When he protested, Evans was alleged to have told him that no one would know and it was "just to have fun." Eisenfeld claims the harassment
started around the same time that he had inadvertently interrupted a tryst between Evans and Williams, whom he suspects of having an affair.
