sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) continues to grow despite efforts to educate those at risk. The goal of Healthy People 2010 concerning STDs is to "Promote responsible sexual behaviors, strengthen community capacity, and increase access to quality services to prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and their complications" (Healthy People 2010). This goal provides the focus of a program to be developed and directed at a group of 25 at-risk teens living in a group home in Kansas City, Missouri. The approach will be that of issuing a one-page fact sheet for the teens and opportunity for question-answer sessions. Community Focus Healthy People 2010 calls for increased screening of sexually active females under the age of 25; Point 7 of the initiative outlines targets for community-based education of special populations. The "special population" in this case is a group home for 25 at-risk teens. The US Census Bureau (1997) reports that there are 52 exempt establishments in the local area serving all special populations. Obviously, only a few of those serve at-risk teens. There were more than 300 teens living in non-institutionalized group situations at the time of the 1990 census (US Census Bureau). Figures from the 2000 Census are not yet available, but it can be assumed that there are a greater number ten years later.
