When I was at Smithton High School the other day, Principal Kennedy mentioned you were very impressed with my speech. Thanks so much
for sharing that information with him. But the one thing Ill say is that I wouldnt have been nearly as impressive if Id dropped out of school. I would have
been a dumb idiot, afraid to get up before a group of people to speak. And yeah, I was thinking about dropping out. I was too cool to stay in
school, that there wasnt anything the teachers were giving me I could use and it was a waste of my time. But an adult I respect knocked some sense into
my head, so I finished and here I am. And there you are. Youre probably thinking that school is a waste of
time, and youd be better off leaving and joining the Air Force or Army. Both of these are very worthwhile endeavors. But these organizations really stress that they prefer students
finish their education before they enlist and for very good reasons. First, high school dropouts dont make as much money as those who
have completed their high school education. I know what youre going to say: Bill Gates was a dropout. Steve Jobs was a dropout. Both these guys finished high school, though.
They dropped out of college. But high school taught them out to think, how to ask the right questions and how to interact with others. Because of that, Bill Gates
was able to strike that deal with IBM to develop the operating system we now know as Windows. Same thing with Steve Jobs. You dont see any high school dropouts
