become part of the cultural memory, even working itself into the very language of a culture. This would indeed be the case with the epic movie series, Star Wars. Part
of what has made Star Wars the successful venture that it is, is that it is actually based on classical forms and themes. As such, Star Wars is actually the
classic journey of an epic hero. Throughout history there seems to be an unwritten consensus about what actually constitutes or makes
one heroic. These archetypes if one will, depicts the basic profile of the hero. Oedipus seems to follow this structure quite well. Later, Hemmingway, with his code hero, would bring
this form into the modern era. It can be said that the hero is someone who lived by a certain moral code, or set of rules that serve as
a compass for the character when facing great and insurmountable odds. For Luke Skywalker and the other Jedi Knights, this code of honor was the way of the force. Even
though many heroes may die in the end, death is always faced head on by the characters and they do not flinch in the face of it. The hero is
given a task to perform and in doing so derives some sort of personal meaning from it. He may meet with a great series of misfortunes, but the hero endures,
because it is this constant facing of death that defines life. Another point about the classical hero archetype is that almost all of them are loners. Even when they are
surrounded by a large group of people, there is this inner stoicism, this inner torment that is for the hero alone to bear. Luke knows mid-way through the Star Wars
