be repression after repression after repression. However, it seems as though, especially in this day and age in which "Westernization" seems to be causing more problems for people in the
former Soviet Union than communism did, many are looking nostalgically back to Stalin, despite his reign of terror. Although he was a brutal master, believe some, he at least kept
order in the country and kept the trains running on time, even if his methods were considered unorthodox and cruel. Joseph Stalin,
who ruled the Soviet Union with an iron red fist was no stranger to the actions of a tyrant. He ordered bloody purges whenever he tired of officials in high
places (Conan). He used mass starvation as a policy tool to wield total control over the population (Conan). He forced citizens to move thousands of miles from their homes, simply
because he wanted their land for Soviet purposes (Conan). He was one of the major architects of the Iron Curtain, a man who forced communism and totalitarianism on various countries
(Conan). And when he was died, he was embalmed and revered, so much so that he was on display in the Lenin Mausoleum for years following his death (Conan).
Today, with the Iron Curtain no longer in existence, and with the former Soviet Union tasting capitalism and so-called "Western" freedom for the
first time in years, most Russians regard Stalin with the same view as do most historians and leader of the former free world; Stalin was a tyrant who murdered millions
