offering the same services through similar products, but they seem like two totally different entities. This is the case with Southwest
Airlines and American Airlines. Both operate in the same region - Southwests headquarters are near downtown Dallas, while Americans headquarters are on the east side of Fort Worth. Both are
in the airline industry. But the two are vastly different - while American Airlines is the older pioneer of aviation (having been launched during the 1920s), Southwest is the relatively
young upstart, with operations commencing in 1972. In this paper, well examine both of these companies, determining how they operate and where
they fly to. Well also examine their corporate culture to determine how it might impact customer satisfaction. In the end, well compare these two operations. Overview: Southwest Airlines
Southwest Airlines has built its niche as a short-to-medium haul point-to-point carriers. What this means is that it flies more or less directly
to a destination (though there may be two or three changes in the meantime) rather than to a major city "hub," which then branches out to regional areas. Also, SWA
flies into downtown or secondary airports (Love Field in Dallas, versus DFW International and Midway Field in Chicago versus Chicago OHare International). The "intown" route tends to mean less congestion
