made this off color low quality cartoon such a success? Quite simply, it addresses those needs in the human psyche which respond to that feeling of flaunting the rules, of
getting away with it, of laughing at someone whose life is worse off than our own. Bart Simpson of The Simpsons is another classic example and who actually can be
said to have laid the foundation for shows such as South Park to make their debut. Beavis and Butthead are another such cartoon. All of these cartoons offer the viewer
something which most cartoons do not: animated social commentary. Oh, of course the viewers dont say to themselves that they are going to turn on the show for some moving
intellectual stimulation. To most viewers they just want to be entertained. However, if one starts to analyze what is actually being portrayed and what is said by the various
actions of the characters, then one begins to see the larger social picture. People who support South Park love the show because it says what they cannot say without fear
of rebuke. South Park is completely politically incorrect. This is a backlash, it can be said, against the many confining social rules which have been thrust upon the American public.
People are tired of it and when they see a character who is able to say what they have always wanted to say, then they applaud them, they even make
him their clandestine hero. This just goes to show that the production values mean little if the characterization is genuine and interesting. South Park aint Disney. The characters dont have
the smooth gentle lines. They dont have the tone quality nor the careful editing. South Park is a comic strip come to life, barely. In addition, this show is not
