Vatican and of the philosophers of the day and age. His biggest collection was called the Summa Theologica. In it there resides almost ninety various answers and questions based on
the theology of the Roman Catholic Church. Among these is the idea of redemption, the act of redemption, the process of redemption, the definition of redemption, and Aquinas own theories
about redemption. It can be said that his treatises on this subject had great influence on the study of redemption in later years, or in the vernacular, Soteriology.
In regards to redemption, Thomas Aquinas states that Christ is to be considered the perfect example of the human state brought into alignment with
the divine. He also states that Christ as the perfect example serves both as teacher and example and that his work and his suffering all served toward this goal(New Advent
2002). He also goes on to elaborate and expound upon this idea, explaining that God, not being burdened with the sin of a human body or nature, could have chosen
to forgive mankind without thought of satisfaction, but knowing the human heart, chose that his justice and mercy should be best revealed through mans satisfaction(New Advent, 2002).
Aquinas goes on to explain Christs sacrifice through suffering in that it came out of Christs love and obedience for mankind. This offering, then, purchased
salvation for mankind and Thomas believed that Christ still has influence both on Earth in the hearts of man as well as in Heaven as an intercessory. So, one could
say, and Thomas would no doubt agree, that as the liaison for humankind, Christ has some effect upon the forgiveness of sins and has some part in their reconciliation and
